Note on the assumption of costs in the event of water damage:
liability insurance: If the water damage was caused by your fault (e.g. a burst pipe or overflowing bath water), your private liability insurance could cover the damage if you are liable for the damage to third parties.
home contents insurance: This insurance can cover water damage to personal items in your home. However, it usually has to explicitly include protection against water damage. Damage from tap water, rainwater or flooding is often covered, while damage from leaky appliances may be excluded.
homeowners insurance: This insurance covers damage to the building itself caused by water, such as burst pipes or water ingress. Again, it is important to check the exact terms in the contract.
damage report: In the event of water damage, it is important to report the damage to the insurance company immediately and to collect all necessary evidence (photos, reports).
